St. Andrew's VestryRoles and ResponsibilitiesThe vestry is the legal representative of the parish with regard to all matters pertaining to its corporate property. The basic responsibilities of the vestry are to help define and articulate the mission of the congregation, to support the church's mission by word and deed, to select the rector, to ensure effective organization and planning, and to manage resources and finances. Vestry expresses concerns about the plans for the Book Exchange property. After reviewing detailed information about plans to build for-profit student housing on the Book Exchange property, Rev. Carol and the St. Andrew's vestry have written a letter to the elected officials of College Park voicing concerns. The letter is posted in PDF format here. Elections and MeetingsAccording to the bylaws of St. Andrew's, the vestry consists of twelve members, elected to staggered, three-year terms at the annual meeting of the parish in January. The presiding officer of the vestry is the rector. A secretary and treasurer are appointed and attend vestry meetings but do not vote. The senior warden, junior warden, treasurer, and rector comprise the Executive Committee of the vestry. The Vestry meets each month in the Rectors’ Lounge, usually on the evening of the third Tuesday. Meetings are open to all interested parishioners. 2012 Vestry Election: This year’s candidates for Vestry are: Andrew Blair, Maureen David, Andrew Delfino, Kay Gilcher, Mary Marshall Levy, Mike Miller, Dupe Somade, and Jennifer Thorson. We are voting for four Vestry members to serve three-year terms and one to serve a one-year term. Also, the nominees for diocesan delegate (two-year term) are: John Rigg and Jean Steele. There will be a candidate forum after the 10:30 am service on Sunday, January 29, and the election will occur during the annual meeting on February 5 (also after the 10:30 am service).
