Warm Nights Shelter at St. Andrew's — February 12-19:
A shelter for men, women and children will be hosted at St Andrew's from Sunday evening February 12 to Sunday morning February 19. We are asked to take up to 25 people. Many
volunteers are needed to help the shelter run smoothly. The shelter is open from 7 PM to 7 AM each day. We provide supper and breakfast and a lunch for them to take during the day.
Donations of food for all meals are needed. Volunteers are needed for help with meal prep, serving, clean up and overnight. Overnight volunteers can sleep as there is paid staff
from Community Crises Services (CCSi). Cash is always needed to purchase supplies during the week. Sign up sheets are in the Parish Hall. Take a look and see how you can help!

Sunday Eucharist Services: 8:00 a.m. (Rite 1) and 10:30 a.m. (Rite 2). Wednesday Eucharist: 12:00 p.m. Please view the campus ministry
page for additional services offered in partnership with the Episcopal/Anglican Campus Ministry at the University of Maryland. Anyone who is seeking a deeper
relationship with Jesus Christ is welcome to receive communion at St. Andrew's.
Welcome Families with Children
St. Andrew's is blessed to have a thriving population of families with children and a strong Sunday School program offered through our Christian
Formation ministry. Children are active participants in our services and we strive as a community to support them in their spiritual journey.
Nursery Care
Children under the age of 3 are welcome in our nursery from 9 am - noon each Sunday.
Sunday School
All children, ages 3 - 5th grade are invited to attend Sunday School classes, beginning at 10:30 am on most Sundays from mid-September to the end of May. The
pre-school (3 and 4 years old) and the intermediate (3rd to 6th grade) classes meet in the lower
level of the parish hall. The primary class (5 to 7 years old) meets in the large classroom across from the nursery. Children will join their parents at the Peace. Parents should complete a registration form — extras are available on the
Christian Formation bulletin board in the parish hall. Additional details about Sunday School curriculum are on the Christian Formation page. Parents: Please be sure to complete and return
a registration form.
Youth Group
All youth in 6th through 12th grade are invited to participate in our Youth Group at 9:30 in the youth room two Sundays in each month. Bagels and juice will accompany
introduction and discussion. All youth and their parents are invited to join the Youth Group email list. It's a great way to keep up with events, arrange rigs, and find
a substitutes for that week when you just can't serve as acolyte.

Announcements
Free Covered Parking Every Sunday
The College Park garage above the Ledo restaurant on the corner of Knox Road and Yale Avenue is free all day on Sunday. Please keep this in mind as our surrounding area continues to grow and
take on a more urban feel. The garage has an elevator and is about two blocks away on Yale Avenue from our front door. You may (or may not) see the parking meters removed from the Book Exchange parking lot
across the street from St. Andrew's in the next month or so. Be assured that the management of the Book Exchange continues to be friendly to St. Andrew’s and that we are welcome to
park on the lot on Sunday mornings. Check with the office before parking there for other parish events. Sometime in the next year we expect to see some major changes in the
Book Exchange property, so remember the garage when the time comes.

Coats for Kids • Donations Accepted Now
The children at “our” elementary school, Langley Park-McCormick, need our help. Each year we collect new (or lightly worn, in perfect condition)
winter coats for kids ages 4 through 13, and deliver them to the school. Many of the families are not prepared, either financially and culturally, for a Maryland
winter. Please help fill the box in the back of the church so that the kids can arrive at school warm and ready to learn.

Kid's Play During the Winter at St. Andrew's • February 4, 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Saint Andrew's has agreed to host young children, their parents and caregivers, and friends in the community for Saturday morning children's play
throughout the winter. In general, kids’ play is scheduled to occur in the Parish Hall from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on specific Saturdays from December through March.
Kids’ play is an opportunity for parish parents and caregivers to enjoy fellowship with one another and with friends throughout the community, and for children to
enjoy unstructured fellowship and play with each other during the cold winter months. Attendance is on a drop-in basis, and families need not stay for the entire
time, but we do ask that one parent or caregiver stay with their children at all times. The following Saturdays are reserved for Kids' Play in the Parish Hall:
Dec. 10 and 17; Jan. 7 and 21; Feb. 4, 11 and 25; and Mar. 17. Volunteers are needed to help with set-up and tear-down; to volunteer, or for questions please contact

Adult Forum — "The Faith of a Physicist," part 1 • February 5 at 9:30 a.m.
Join us at the Adult Forum for a two-week look at the relationship between science and faith - especially the Christian faith – by a practitioner of both
(Larry Merkle). This series will combine some insights gleaned from two of Larry's favorite books on the science-religion dialog, input from a few other sources, and
of course bits of his own understanding. On February 5, we will explore similarities (more than you might guess) and differences in science’s and religion’s ways of
knowing and understanding; and how one trajectory of science’s understanding has affected the science-faith dialog. In part 2 on February 12, we will explore what
science can and can’t say about God’s nature and action in the world. Come one and all (and bring a friend)!

Caregiving Support Group • February 12 after the 10:30 a.m. Service
Rosalind Carter says in her book “Helping Yourself Help Others” that there are four kinds of people in the world:
Those who have been caregivers
Those who are currently caregivers
Those who will be caregivers
Those who will need caregivers.
Statistics on caregiving are startling. Over 29% of us are caregivers at any one time. Many of us doing caregiving are female, still working and may still have
children or grandchildren in the home. The cost of caregiving from family members is thought to exceed $375 billion each year in out-of-pocket expenses and time from
work. With all these stresses on us as caregivers, where do we turn for help? One way we seek help is by joining a support group. They have been proven to be
invaluable in reducing stress in caregiving situations. In response to this need, St. Andrews will once again offer a monthly Caregiver Support Group. It will meet
from 12:00-1:30 pm on the second Sunday of each month. The leader will be Helen Barnes, RN-BC, MA, CCM who has years of experience working with
caregiver families. A co-leader to be named later will be joining us. The purpose of the caregiving group is to talk about current problems of caregiving or those
that may have been experienced in the past. The idea is to offer shared support for those facing it now or those beginning to see it in their future. There will be
opportunities to ask questions about resources and to learn from each other about caregiving successes or failures. A caregiver support group is a place for validation
of efforts and receiving care from each other in difficult times. So, please come join us on the second Sunday of each month as we continue to grow in God’s grace to provide care for some
very special people, our families or friends.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner — with Bishop Budde! • February 21 at 5:00 p.m.
Please join us for this fun event on Shrove Tuesday, February 21, at 7 pm. Tickets will be on sale during coffee hour starting February 5.
The cost for individuals is $5 and for families $10. You will also have the unique opportunity to meet your new Bishop who will be with us for the pancake supper!

Consultation on Christian Education for Children and Youth • March 3, 10:00 a.m. - Noon, Virginia Theological Seminary
Dorothy Linthicum, Program Director for the Ministry of Teaching at Virginia Theological Seminary, as agreed to meet with Rev. Carol and all who
are interested in the future of childen and youth formation at St. Andrew's. This special meeting will be held on March 3 at the seminary. If you would like to attend,
please contact the office so that we can coordinate transportation.

St. Andrew's Concert Series - Evensong • March 4 at 4:00 p.m.
In this second event in the 2011-2012 "Four Concerts at Four" series, the Parish Choir, under the direction of Dale Krider, will sing the traditional
Evensong service as instituted by Thomas Cranmer in 1549. Several favorite anthems will be included. The concert is free and no reservations are required. For more

St. Andrew's Concert Series - Matthew Daley, Piano • March 25 at 4:00 p.m.
Matthew Daley began piano study at age four. Now 20, he is currently a piano major at the University of Maryland. He has won first prize in the
MSMTA Chamber Music Competition, the Doris Chase Piano Sonata Competition, the Marriott Piano Competition and was twice first prize winner in the Viola Hartman
Piano competition. In 2009 he won the Silver Medal in the National ACT-SO Classical Instrumental competition. In 2010 he won the Prokofiev Piano Concerto competition
at the University of Maryland. An accomplished violinist, he is also studying the organ with Dale Krider. This is the third event in the 2011-2012 "Four Concerts at

According to the EPA, Americans throw away 25 billion styrofoam cups every year and a cup that gets tossed today will still be in the landfill 500 years from now. It’s also bulky, as the foam is designed to resist compression. The estimates of landfill space taken up by styrofoam range from 20-30%. Please use paper when ever possible.
